چکیده

Abstract Background Early mechanisms underlying the progressive tissue death and regenerative capability of burn wounds are understudied in human skin. A clinically relevant, reproducible model for wound healing is needed to elucidate early changes environment. This study reports a contact on skin that explores extent injury over time, defines inter-individual variability enable use mechanistic studies progression healing. Methods Using customized device, burns various depths were created by two operators evaluated histologic depth three raters determine reproducibility. also histologically after thermally injured was cultured ex vivo up 14 days. Results Burn reproducibly generated temperature- or time-dependent manner. No significant difference operator-created rater-determined observed within each patient sample. However, variation identified ten samples. Burn-injured placed into culture demonstrated differential cell collagen denaturation high low temperature burns, while re-epithelialization superficial period Conclusion represents an invaluable tool evaluate complement current animal models enhance translation preclinical research improvements care.

Experimental 70% hydrofluoric acid burns: histological observations in an established human skin explants ex vivo model

BACKGROUND Hydrofluoric acid (HF) is particularly dangerous due to the potential for systemic effects and induction of severe skin necrosis through two mechanisms: corrosiveness and local tissue toxicity. In addition, because it is only partially dissociated (pK(a) 3.2), it is capable of penetrating deeply into tissues. There is a lack of experimental studies that objectively characterize the b...

Ex vivo study of the home-use TriPollar RF device using an experimental human skin model.

BACKGROUND A wide variety of professional radio frequency (RF) aesthetic treatments for anti-aging are available aiming at skin tightening. A new home-use RF device for facial treatments has recently been developed based on TriPollar technology. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the mechanism of the new home-use device, in the process of collagen remodeling, using an ex vivo skin model. METHODS Human s...

Airbag-Induced Thermal Skin Burns

Two new techniques for investigating the thermal skinburn potential of airbags are presented. A reduced-volume airbag test procedure has been developed to obtain airbag pressures that are representative of a dynamic ridedown event during a static deployment. Temperature and heat flux measurements made with this procedure can be used to predict airbag thermal burn potential. Measurements from th...
